PACKING

  • pack with padded hip belt

  • capacity: external frame - 65L or 3966 cubic inches +/-

  • capacity: internal frame - 75L or 4600 cubic inches +/-

  • pack cover - waterproof nylon (A)

  • 6 - 12 1-gallon Zip Lock plastic bags to pack clothes

  • 2 - 3 small stuff sacks to pack personal items/organize

  • 2 - 3 small ditty bags to pack personal items/organize

 

SLEEPING

  • sleeping bag rated 20* and less then 5lbs. in compression sack lined with plastic bag

  • 1 waterproof stuff sack for sleeping bag

  • sleep clothes - worn only in sleeping bag (T-shirt and gym shorts)

  • 1 pair straps to hold sleeping bag on pack

  • foam sleeping pad (recommended closed cell or Therma-Rest)

 

CLOTHING

 

  • Layer A (Hiking Clothes)

  • hiking boots - well broken in

  • camp shoes - lightweight sneakers or tennis shoes

  • 3 pairs outer socks (Smartwool or Thorlos)

  • 3 pairs of light inner socks (polypro)

  • 3 changes underwear (optional)

  • 2 hiking shorts or 2 pairs pants with zip off legs - no blue jeans

  • 2 short sleeve shirts (moisture wicking material is best)

  • 1 hat or cap - flexible, with brim (should cover ears)

 

  • Layer B (Cool Evening)

  • 1 long sleeve shirt (synthetic or wool)

  • 1 pair insulated underwear (polypro)

 

  • Layer C (Cold)

  • 1 sweater or jacket (wool or polar fleece)

  • 1 stocking cap (wool or polypro)

  • 1 glove liners or mittens (wool or polypro)

 

  • Layer D (Cold, Wet, Windy)

  • 1 sturdy rainsuit - jacket and pants waterproof (REQUIRED) (A)

        ABSOLUTELY NO PONCHOS

 

EATING

  • 1 large Sierra Cup (Cool Lip)

  • 1 tablespoon (attached to Sierra Cup by string)

  • 3 1 1/2 qt. water bottles (Nalgene brand suggested) (A)

 

PERSONAL and MISCELLANEOUS

  • small pocketknife (A)

  • flashlight/headlamp (small with brand new batteries)

  • compass - liquid filled

  • 2 bandanas or handkerchiefs (BB)

  • money ($10-$20 in small bills)

  • lip balm with SPF of 25, chapstick (BB) (A)

  • small camp towel - quick dry

  • sunscreen at least 25 SPF (BB) (S)

  • ditty bag (for personal items in bear bag)
